Biography of Gregory D. Gough, D.D.S. - Orthodontist

It is with pride that I relate the story of my dental experience.

I graduated from the Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery in 1980, immersed myself in a two year general practice residency in the United States Public Health Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, and practiced dentistry in Connecticut and in Boston in the 1980's. Among my academic honors are memberships in Omicron Kappa Upsilon and the International College of Dentists'Award for Outstanding Achievement.

I practiced general dentistry for eight years, including several years with Harvard Community Health at the Boston Center, before returning to postdoctural study. I feel that as a result of this experience I have excellent grounding and understanding of the interplay of the various disciplines needed to ensure that patients access the highest quality of care that is currently available. I can, with confidence, say that after all of those years of general practice, I was experienced enough to be a "well rounded" participant in the Columbia University postdoctoral program which I entered in 1988. I received my Certificate in Orthodontics in 1990, completed the testing requirements for board eligibility, and as a special honor, I was recruited to be an Assistant Clinical Professor of Orthodontics immediately following my graduation.

During this time my wife entered a Masters Program in English at New York University so we remained in New York City and enjoyed its many cultural offerings. I was an orthodontist in Manhattan and Brooklyn and taught at Columbia University for the next five years. I have fond memories of my life there and enjoyed being connected to so many different types of people. Also it was a time to "give back" so I volunteered much of my time to the dental school and several of its organizations. For example, I was an Editor, a Vice President, and a Program Director for the Columbia Alumni Orthodontic Society.

Following this, in the mid 90's, I developed expertise in early treatment as an associate in a pedo/ortho practice in Natick, Massachusetts. Since returning to the Boston area, I have been and continue to be a member of the American Association of Orthodontists through the local branch - the North Shore District Dental Society (in this organization I served as an executive board member who represented the North Shore district at the state level). In addition, I have been and continue to be a member of an active orthodontic study club (the Suburban Study Club) and aggressively pursue continuing education.

Currently the most important phase of my professional life is unfolding. I purchased a West Peabody and Saugus orthodontic practice on January 13, 1999 and most recently a Beverly orthodontic practice on September 15, 2006. It is a pleasure to work alongside a skilled and wonderful staff and such respected and well known dentists and specialists of the North Shore community. Together we can embrace the challenges of the future and undertake the mission to provide exceptional orthodontic care and dental health. The core of my philosophy is based on the following triad - provide an accurate diagnosis, offer the highest level of service, and ensure the most efficient treatment at reasonable cost. This triad is supported by a key ingredient… Experience!
